Day NintyFour of being Aflickionless...

It's been a fairly quite and laid back day. Which is no surprise considering how seedy Maz was feeling after last night.

"25 days till Haydn gets back, 25 days till he returns, wake up one day and fuck around, 24 days till Haydn returns"

A man who cooked his pet dog in a backyard barbecue cannot be prosecuted because it was killed humanely, says the SPCA. South Auckland man Paea Taufa was found roasting his pitbull terrier-cross in an umu pit at his home in Mangere, the Sunday News reported. The dog had been skinned and gutted and was partially charred when SPCA inspectors arrived. Mr Taufa said he had been surprised when inspectors arrived because dog was a delicacy in Tonga . "I didn't know I couldn't cook the dog. In Tonga, any time there I cook the dog and it is okay. Dog is good food." He had decided to cook the dog because it was too skinny and had become unmanageable. He rendered the dog unconscious with a blow to the head before slitting its throat, which is regarded as humane. Under the Animal Welfare Act it is legal to kill a dog in New Zealand if the animal is slaughtered swiftly and painlessly.

Earthquakes struck the King Country and Wanganui this morning, the largest measuring 4.2 on the Richter scale. GNS Science said the 4.2 magnitude quake shook the King Country at 9.21am. It was centred 10km east of Ohura, near Taumarunui, at a depth of 210km. A 3.6 magnitude quake was felt in the Wanganui region at 10.20am. It was centred 20km southwest of the city, at a depth of 12km.

Mad Butcher Peter Leitch has made an appalling discovery. A four-burner gas barbecue which was parked outside the Mt Wellington store in Auckland has vanished. The butcher lends out the barbie to community groups, and provides sausages to help them raise money. He cannot imagine what kind of person would want to steal it and he has got the knives out for them. The Mad Butcher says it is hard to find words to describe someone who would steal from a charity.

Organisers of a dance party for high school students have defended the event after a teenager was hospitalised for suspected drug use. About 1500 people attended The Winter White Out, organised by Union Events, at Auckland's Alexandra Park Raceway last Saturday. The rave was promoted as an alcohol-free, all-ages event but restricted to high school students, with tickets sold through student reps around Auckland. Doors opened at 7pm and an hour later organisers were alerted to a teenage girl who appeared to be suffering the effects of drugs or alcohol. Union Events director Joe Butler said the girl was taken to a room inside the venue and treated by first aid staff. Emergency services were called when her condition did not improve. St John arrived at 10.55pm and the girl was taken to Auckland hospital. Police said it appeared she had taken drugs. (read more)
