Day SeventyFour of being Aflickionless...

Maz worked on Seeker again today. Was a stunner of a day for too...she even got to play dead, saw a crew member kill a possum with a stick and had to work a bit late.
Back to it again tomorrow...7am call time.

Police have shot an armed man in the Auckland suburb of Pt Chevalier. Police say the man was armed with a meat cleaver and two other knives when he advanced on police who were observing him while waiting for the Armed Offenders Squad to attend. Police spokeswoman Noreen Hegarty said this afternoon that he had been taken to hospital with gunshot wounds after the shooting at 1pm. The 36-year-old - believed to be actor Rob Mokoraka - is now in a stable condition at Auckland Hospital after he was shot. Rob Mokaraka's agent refused to speak about him tonight, telling the Herald they first had to speak to their client.

Aftershocks continue to jolt the Fiordland region following the massive quake two weeks ago. A 4.8 magnitude quake was recorded at 7.37am today, GNS Science reported. It was centred 100km west of Tuatapere, 87km west of Invercargill, and was 12km deep. A series of aftershocks have been shaking the region following the 7.8 magnitude earthquake on July 15. The tremor was the largest recorded in the world this year, but because of its remote location, caused very little damage.

Police are baffled by the discovery of several litres of blood in a central Hamilton street. Police said they were called to the "bloody mess" at Anglesea Street early on Saturday morning. The blood appeared to have been dropped from a plastic bag off the seventh floor of a nearby carpark building, police said today. They were investigating whether a man who walked past the scene carrying three stainless steel soap dispensers, similar to those used in public toilets, had anything to do with the blood.

Auckland Harbour Bridge has been left off a list of highway upgrades needed to cope with heavier trucks, despite a report last year warning of a need for further strengthening.

Parkour has hit the streets of central Auckland. Its agile players use concrete steps, park benches and even rubbish bins as gym equipment for their leaps, vaults, drops and somersaults. Parkour has sprung from the suburbs of Paris to a world-wide following glamorised by films of participants leaping from building to building. Less-dangerous but thrilling moves were executed by a score of youthful Aucklanders yesterday in a demonstration on the hard concrete structures of Aotea Square. "It's about trying to find your way around your environment using your body," said sixteen-year-old Levon Baird of Takapuna. "You can do it anywhere."

A quick romp in a bush during a storm ended when a bolt of lightning struck the ground nearby, making the earth really move for a love-making couple. The couple in western Germany had parked next to a busy motorway, progressing to the nearby bushes for more privacy. They stripped naked and were so carried away that they didn't stop - until a bolt of lightning struck the ground nearby. The terrified pair ran out of the bush naked, lost their way and were spotted blundering around in the dark by another motorist, who called the police. (Source: Metro.co.uk)

Day SeventyTwo of being Aflickionless...

Dooms day (Body Art Awards) happened. Maz woke up late because she was up till about 4am working on stuff for the competition. This also meant that she was late at starting, rather than starting at 8am she didn't start painting till 9amish.

It was a super long day and at 2pm Maz wasn't sure if she would finish in time. The judges thought that Maz's piece was beautifully painted and they could see the amount of detail in the piece. Chris did a fantastic job on stage, jumping and cartwheeling...he was brilliant. Maz was also told by Gino (from Weta) that her work has really improved over the years...that was probably the highlight of Maz's day.

Maz had a few tickets for the competition, so JayJay & Sandro came to watch and scream for Maz & Sam's work.

Sadly (and she isn't surprised) Maz didn't place at the awards. Carmel was the winner of hand painted and Kelly Ren was the Surpreme Award winner (she won Best Novice last year). Photos of the day can be found below.

Maz really wants to re-paint the horimono on Chris and take some photos of his leaping in the air etc with the weapon.

Next years theme for the Body Art Awards is Bollywood. Oh dear lord save us...how narrow is that?!?!?

After the body art awards Maz, Russell, Chris, Dee and Sam headed off to Ginger Minx and met up with Hez, Tina, Dave and Sarah. We would of been there much sooner, but Dee's car broke down at Onewa Road. So Sandro (Chris's partner) came and saved Chris & Maz. Dee & Sam (after parking the car in a side street) got a ride with Russell.

Day SixtySix of being Aflickionless...

After not rolling in the door till about 4.30am Maz never got to bed till almost 5.30am. So she slept all day...well till around 2pm.

Hell must of froze over this morning because Tina, Matt and the kids went to church. WTF? They never go to church, but somehow they were talked into go by Matt's dad.

Other than that nothing much to report on today.

With swine flu cases soaring in New Zealand and schools resuming tomorrow, health officials are advising teachers and students to stay home if they are sick. In New Zealand there are now 2255 confirmed cases of swine flu (Influenza A H1N1) and the virus has led to the deaths of 10 people.

A man who was fatally hit by a car outside a hospital emergency department lay injured for nearly 24 minutes before an ambulance transported him inside. Ross Stuart Andrew, 54, was hit outside Waitakere Hospital in Henderson, West Auckland, just before 8.15am on July 9. He died in North Shore Hospital two days later. Police said Andrew was walking across the hospital's access road when he was hit by a car turning into the site. A witness called 111 and an ambulance was dispatched from central Auckland.

Celebrated Kiwi painter Frances Hodgkins has joined Beethoven, Hemingway and Rembrandt - by having a crater on Mercury named after her. The Hodgkins crater is among 16 discovered by Nasa's Messenger spacecraft last October. All such landforms on the closest planet to the sun are named after dead artists, authors and musicians. The names are suggested by members of the Messenger team, the public and the International Astronomical Union.

A Kiwi flight attendant has been at the centre of an internet controversy while competing for a spot on the New York Knicks cheerleading squad. Melissa Rodriguez, 27, auditioned to become the 18th member of the Knicks City Dancers and made it to the final two. Fans were then asked to vote for their favourite. The winner is due to be announced by the end of tomorrow. However organisers wiped all the votes for both contestants after allegations were made that Rodriguez was cheating, according to a fan site run by her brother. She was alleged to have told people how to set up an automatic vote for her on the site.

The long-lost love who stole Hank Hartel's heart has been found. The 69-year-old Australian was searching for New Zealander Jan Grace, whom he met on a ship from England in 1965.
Hank was thrilled to learn Jan contacted the Herald on Sunday after his story appeared last week. "It's beautiful," he said. "It'll be nice just to be able to send her an email." Jan, who has been happily married for 40 years and has two adult children and four grandchildren, said she remembered Hartel well. "A lovely, sincere, handsome young man with a good sense of humour,"she said. "We shared a lot of fun and good times until he left the ship in Melbourne to start his new life in Australia."

(Adam) Freeland...check that shit out!!! Click here!!! So hawt today.
now there is a reason behind knowing about Freeland, PEREZ! But anywho
apparently Black Eyed Peas have stolen a sample of the song "Mancry" by Freeland. According to reports, B.E.P. member and producer Will.I.Am was at an event last year where Freeland performed this song in question. The B.E.P "version" is called "Party All The Time" and is to be on their new album The E.N.D. We will have to see what happens.

Let's see...Maz was up at the crack of dawn (it wasn't even dawn, it was still dark outside) to watch the Michael Jackson Memorial on TV, and she was surprised that it wasn't the circus that she was expecting it would be. It was like a normal funeral service, but with a few thousand more people. Beautifully done.
Maz has finished all of her designing now (both NZ Body Art and Style Pasifika are down). This afternoon she went and picked up the fabric needed (SPOTLIGHT)...one of the fabrics was $26.99 per meter, Maz is rather shocked that she paid it and all up spent close to $80 on fabric for what is basicially a skirt. While in Spotlight though Maz found these things called Face Paint Sticks...and began to think. They are basicially like a crayon but paint. Could possibly make life a lot easier and very interesting. Bring on the competition!!!

Nine Wellington bus drivers have been sacked for allegedly stealing thousands of dollars in fares, but they won't face charges if they repay the money, bus company Go Wellington says. The drivers were fired over the past three months for stealing at least $20,000 between May and June, the Dominion Post reported.

More New Zealanders are cutting their spending because of the recession but the dollars they do spend are going on food, fashion and fun, a survey shows.

The cost of living in Auckland is cheap compared with major cities measured in a global survey. Out of the 143 cities measured by consultancy firm Mercer, Auckland placed 138th, down from 78th in 2008. Mercer's 2009 Worldwide Cost of Living survey compares the cost of housing, transport, food and other goods, and is used an indicator for compensation for companies who send their employees abroad.

Day FourtyTwo of being Aflickionless...

Maz was up to about 3.30am working on her entry for the Body Art Awards and giggling her ass off at how long a bus ride can take.

Although Maz wanted to start the body paint for the media launch early, she never got started till aboout 11am, which meant she only had about 2.5hours to do it in. However she got it done (used the design she was going to paint on Jenna for Slinky)...but then it all just fell apart from there.
Rocked on over to the Lake House to find the media launch wasn't being held there (nobody had told me otherwise), so we went over to the Bruce Mason Centre to find it wasn't there either. But we found out it was at Spenser on Byron, so we went there and because of all the running around trying to find them Maz was late. Thus meaning that Maz wasted the day painting a body paint that wasn't even used in the end. So in a shitty (because of the lack of organisation of NZBAA) she didn't even hang around and gapped it home.

The winners of last night's $36 million Big Wednesday prize package are an extended family syndicate formed because a great grandmother could no longer afford to buy a weekly ticket on her own. They are a great grandmother, two sisters - a nurse and a bakery worker - and a full-time mother from Masterton.

Police will have new powers to deal with drivers on drugs under legislation passed last night. Under the Land Transport Amendment Bill (No 4), which comes into force on December 1, police can decide through a compulsory impairment test whether a driver is impaired. If the test shows a driver is impaired, it will be followed by a blood test to determine whether drugs are present.

When David Bull lost his hotel maintenance job at the start of the recession last year, the last thing he expected was to lose his right to live in New Zealand - a land he has called home for 30 years. Mr Bull, a former Royal Navy sailor, says he found out he had been overstaying almost half his life only when he applied for the benefit at Work and Income, where he was asked to produce his passport and proof of residency.

Work and Income has signed up for a McJobs combo deal with McDonald's to provide about 7000 jobs to those in the dole queue as unemployment rises. Under the deal, about 7000 staff will be recruited and trained through Work and Income over the next five years to work at McDonald's.

Roundtop, Funky Monkey, Porky, Fuego, Digit, Miracle and Magic made a splash at Kohimarama and St Heliers yesterday. The pod of adult and baby orca whales came in close to the shore to hunt for rays, much to the delight of hundreds of spectators.
Elizabeth Meadows was out for her morning walk when she saw the pod at St Heliers Bay. "I followed them to Kohimarama. They were leaping out of the water chasing stingrays. It looked like they were teaching the younger ones how to hunt."

Use your partners sock to releave yourself. Later tell them you did so. Then sit back and watch the paranoia start, "Which sock? Is it this one? Did he really?"

Alternativly make your partner their morning coffee and say "I boogered in that" as you give it to her. And walk out the door to work, or sit back and watch the
paranoia start, "Did he really? Nah, that's gross. Or did he?"

In this day and age of PC and paranoia (swine flu and Bull Rush) it is great to see a school in Tokoroa is still operating as in the good old days! Recently seen in the local school newsletter: "Caught Being Good Award: Robert for letting Kate use his mouth guard so she could play Bull Rush."

Marketing failure No3: "Vodafone has twice mailed me a silver envelope containing a teabag and a card saying, 'Put the kettle on ...' My conclusion? It has demonstrated ineptitude and mixed messages: great for a communications company!"

And the Glastonbury jealousy begins...I think some Victoria Beckswith, you mean Victoria Hesketh...aka Little Boots lyrics are in order to ask the questions.

"So what do you think so far
Is it all you're hoping for
Does it live up to your every dream
Or do we disappoint
Well you made the choice
When you wake up you can hear the scream"

Yes "New In Town" is by far track of the moment. But can you blame me? NEED THE ALBUM!

Tomorrow is the media launch for the 2009 NZ Body Art Awards. Maz was going to be painting JayJay for it, but seeings as she can't get out of work she will be painting Russell instead. Photos will be taken and will be up here in tomorrows blog (don't worry though she isn't doing a full body paint, so you won't be blinded).
Maz is currently working on her entry for the Body Art Awards. It's due in tomorrow, last minute Charlie huh? You might get to see the concepts IF you are lucky!

Maz helped Jamie (one of Tina's daughters) with her homework last night. It was to create a tapa cloth type picture (you know draw a picture on paper, and use tea & coffee to stain it). Well Jamie got home from school and told Maz it was for a competition and well she won. Haha! Oops! Slight cheating there.

Three people have been injured, one critically, after a boiler room exploded at Orewa College, north of Auckland.

The younger sister of a Wellington boy who disappeared without a trace 68 years ago is relieved a "very, very tragic" family story has come to an end. Nine-year-old Ronald "Ronnie" Alfred Oldham was last seen playing alone at the Miramar Wharf in Wellington on the evening of February 17, 1941. Police believed Ronnie fell from the wharf, hit his head and drowned, but his body was never found. This week, Ronnie was officially declared dead by Wellington Coroner Garry Evans.

Tenants living in state houses will be given an opportunity to buy their house from September. Housing Minister Phil Heatley told The Dominion Post the scheme would be available to most Housing New Zealand tenants - but not all. Exclusions would include homes on land subject to Treaty of Waitangi claims or land not owned by Housing NZ, blocks of flats which were not on separate titles, and any homes considered strategically important. Housing NZ would not have to sell any house, buyers must live in the house and could not live in a state house for three years after their purchase.

A South Canterbury man has been convicted of ill treating a child after he "strung up" the 11-year-old girl when she refused to have a bath.

About 200 onlookers have gathered on Auckland's Tamaki Drive to watch a pod of orca hunting close to the shore. Five or six killer whales have been chasing stingrays within five to ten metres of the shore - moving from Okahu Bay, past Kohimarama and towards St Heliers. Onlookers have been watching what appear to be two adult and three or four juvenile orca throwing stingrays into the air and eating them. New Zealand orcas are the only known orca group that eat stingrays as a staple food, often hunting them into shallow water and sometimes beaching themselves.

The NZ dollar had risen more than 1-1/2c overnight against the greenback, which was heavily sold off. The euro and sterling also rose. The NZ dollar was at US64.07c at 5pm from US62.77c at the same time yesterday. It traded between US63.73c and US64.19c during today's domestic session.

The longest sentence for animal cruelty in New Zealand was imposed on a Dunedin man yesterday.

Jeffrey Hurring, 19, a supermarket shelf-filler, was sentenced in the Dunedin District Court to 12 months' jail for killing an 18-month-old male Jack Russell dog in Dunedin on February 2 this year. He was also barred from owning an animal for 10 years. Hurring admitted killing the dog, named Diesel and owned by a friend, by first trying to strangle it using a chain, his hands and his feet. When the dog did not die after 30 minutes, he poured petrol down its throat, stuffed a pillow-case down its throat and finally hit it on the head with a spade. The impact broke the dog's back and jaw, killing it. (why can't he get death penalty via the same way he killed the dog? It's fucked up how can you kill the pet of a friend)

Three more people have been tested for the HIV virus and another 10 are booked in for tests after reporting sexual contact with the man charged with intentionally infecting people. Last week, name suppression was lifted from train driver Glenn Richard Albert Mills, 40, who is facing criminal charges in the Auckland District Court in relation to seven alleged victims, six men and a woman. Five of the men have since tested positive for the virus.

And in entertainment news...

Ed McMahon, the loyal Tonight Show sidekick who bolstered boss Johnny Carson with guffaws and a resounding "H-e-e-e-e-e-ere's Johnny!" for 30 years, has died. He was 86.

Megan Fox dismisses comparisons between her and Angelina Jolie as the product of a lazy media. The two actresses are both brunettes with tattoos who are known for their candour - and that has been enough for some to proclaim Fox the heir apparent to Jolie's crown. Fox says the parallels are the product of a lack of media creativity, but adds, "you live with it."

Cameron Diaz has been given a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

and Movie star Keisha Castle-Hughes says motherhood turned her into a greenie. The busy Aucklander, who gave birth to Felicity-Amore in 2007, is adding Greenpeace ambassador to her list of commitments.

A leading New Zealand entertainer accused of indecently assaulting a teenage girl is fighting to keep his name secret. Maori students should be granted open access to universities at any age with no qualifications, says Maori Affairs Minister Pita Sharples. Maori involvement in tertiary study was higher than for any other ethnic group, but was centred around low-level courses, he said.

An icy blast from the sub-antarctic is setting in, bringing bitterly cold temperatures to much of the North Island today. Weather Watch analyst Philip Duncan said temperatures would be low enough for snow to fall to low levels in places such as Taupo and Rotorua, which was "very rare". Wellington dropped to 3.7 degrees at lunchtime ('feels like' -5°C) and Duncan said the southerly was making it even chillier. Waiouru, in the central North island has zero degrees.
Snow could still fall as far north as the Hunua Ranges south of Auckland, and the northern tip of the Coromandel Peninsula.
Metservice has issued heavy snow warnings for Southland, Otago, Canterbury, Marlborough and the hills and ranges of Wellington, Wairarapa, Hawkes Bay, Gisborne, Manawatu, Wanganui, Taihape, Taupo and Taranaki.
